     We met a few brief moments, you and I;

We met, and those meetings there was born

Our fated loves. The glad days soon sped by

Till our commingled hearts were loathly torn

Roughly asunder, leaving us to yearn

Incessantly for sweets we cannot find.

     Tempestuous angel!. How you made me burn

In self-fulfilling happiness of mind!.

What ecstasies we shared in that short space

We were together!.

                                           All that, now, is past

And I may never see again your face

Shining with tenderness. I was downcast

     Until I heard it told that all who truly love,

     Though parted here on Earth, share joys in heaven above.
